It is our goal to provide treatment that will enable our patients to achieve optimal oral health.
As of May 2000, the U.S. Surgeon General stated that oral health and general health are no longer separate concerns.
Diseases such as coronary heart disease, diabetes, and stroke can be influenced by your oral health.
Periodontal disease and gingivitis allow infectious bacteria and viruses to penetrate from the gum tissue into the bloodstream.
Diabetics who have periodontal disease or gingivitis double their risks of heart disease, heart attack, and stroke.
Tobacco use also impairs circulation – compromising the body’s immunity.
If you are diagnosed with periodontal disease (infection that destroys the bone support the teeth) or gingivitis (gum inflammation caused by the accumulation of plaque, tartar, food debris, and/or stain), you will be encouraged to receive the treatment necessary to remove the sources of infection and inflammation.
The following information discusses the initial therapies that are performed. Keep in mind that periodontal disease can be a very destructive and aggressive infection. Therapies of debribement and deep scaling may not be enough. Moderate to severe periodontal disease may need additional dental health care procedures provided by a specialist in periodontal medicine.
